ITA: Era il secolo tredicesimo. Benedetta, dei marchesi Obertenghi di Massa, era nata nel 1194 a Santa Igia. Sua madre era Adelasia, figlia del marchese Moroello Malaspina. Suo padre era Guglielmo, marchese di Massa e giudice cagliaritano. I primi “signori” continentali, che di fatto e di diritto si impossessarono di un giudicato sardo.
“Re in Sardegna e cittadini a Pisa” chiamò quei Pisani il poeta Giosuè Carducci. Benedetta è stata la prima donna Judikissa del Giudicato di Cagliari, e della storia della Sardegna. Aveva la sua capitale a Santa Igia e nel castello regnava con il marito e la corte. Chissà se era bella Benedetta. Chissà se era bionda. O mora. A studiarla c’è poco da trovare. A immaginare però c’è tutto un mondo da ricostruire e raccontare.

ENG: It was the thirteenth century. Benedetta, of the Obertenghi marquises of Massa, was born in 1194 in Santa Igia. Her mother was Adelasia, daughter of the Marquis Moroello Malaspina. Her father was Guglielmo, Marquis of Massa and Cagliari judge. The first continental “lords”, who in fact and in law took possession of the Giudicato Sardo.
“King in Sardinia and citizens in Pisa” the poet Giosuè Carducci called those Pisans. Benedetta was the first Judikissa woman of the Giudicato of Cagliari, and of the history of Sardinia. She had the capital in Santa Igia and in her castle she reigned with her husband and her court. Who knows if Benedetta was beautiful? Who knows if she was blonde or dark? Little evidence remains. To imagine, however, there is a whole world to reconstruct and tell.

Ha scritto con Sergio Atzeni Fiabe sarde (Condaghes 1979), con Tonino Oppes Tutti buoni arriva Mommotti (Condaghes 2008). Per Il Maestrale ha pubblicato i romanzi: Si chiama Violante (2004), Terra mala (2011), scritto con Giovanni Follesa, insieme al quale ha curato il volume Cent’anni fa arrivò Lawrence (Il Maestrale 2021).

ENG: Rossana Copez, from Cagliari and lover of her city, has a degree in Philosophy, specialises in Sardinian Studies, has taught Italian and History in high schools. She wrote Sardinian fairy tales (Condaghes 1979) with Sergio Atzeni. Then with Tonino Oppes she wrote All good comes Mommotti (Condaghes 2008). She has published the novels for Il Maestrale: she is called Violante (2004), Terra mala (2011), written with Giovanni Follesa, with whom she edited the volume One hundred years ago Lawrence arrived (Il Maestrale 2021).
